As stated in the foreword, this new edition of the Mechanical Engineer’s
Pocket Book reflects the changing nature of the Engineering Industry in the
UK and changes in the related technology. Many of the British Standards
(BS) quoted in the previous editions have been amended or withdrawn and
replaced by BS EN and BS EN ISO standards. The British Standards catalogue
is no longer available in hard copy but is published on a CD.
Definitions of entries
Catalogue entries are coded as in the example shown below. The various
elements are labelled A–J. The key explains each element. Not all the elements
will appear in every Standard.
